Protection: Individual or Collective?

Two types of protection are offered depending on the crop. Protection is collective for hay and corn silage. It can be collective or individual for cereals and grain corn, while it is individual for the other crops. The main differences between the two protections are:

Individual protection
Damage appraisal is made for your farm business. Any compensation paid corresponds to your actual loss, according to the benefit option you chose.
Collective protection
Damage appraisal is made on a collective basis for a certain number of farm businesses on a same territory. Compensation corresponds to the average loss experienced by businesses on your weather station territory or in your geographical area.

For each insured crop, a probable yield is established based on available statistics and then an insurable yield can be established. The probable yield is specific to each farm business. Consult the coverage summary of the crop in question to find out more.

Crop Insurance: Over and Above the AGRI programs

  • ASREC intervenes, as need be, when damage is observed on your insured crop.
  • ASREC compensation is considered to be allowable income under the AgriStability, Agri-Québec Plus, AgriInvest and Agri-Québec programs. Contributions are counted as allowable expenses under the AgriStability program.
  • When you participate in ASREC at the minimum 70% coverage level, there is no reduction in AgriStability program benefits if your operation's program year margin is negative.

A discount for aspiring farmers starting in 2019

If your operation qualifies for a grant through the Financial Support Program for Aspiring Farmers, you can obtain a discount, if you apply for it, for each of your qualifying operators, of 25% off your ASREC contributions, up to $2500 annually for your overall insured products. The discount will be for three consecutive insurance years starting in the 2019 insurance year.
